Class and Level Description

PLACEMENT

Class placement is at the discretion of the Company Director.  Students will be placed in the class that will be most beneficial for them.  A combination of age and ability and previous dance experience will be taken into consideration.  As the student progresses, ability is of the utmost importance, with age regarded second.  Children grow and advance at many different rates; therefore, they will be enrolled in the level most appropriate for their ability.  New students may be asked to take a placement class to determine the appropriate level for them.

If you do not agree with your dancer’s placement, you may discuss your concerns with the Company Director; however, the Company Director’s placement decisions are final.

CLASSES OFFERED (the following classes may vary per dance year, please see final dance schedule for full listing)

PRE CLASSES: A full hour class specially designed to introduce our younger students to the different styles of dance that we offer in our regular dance program. Our Pre classes offer combination classes including Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop.

CLASSICAL BALLET:  Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work based on a variety of techniques. At the intermediate and advanced levels it is recommended that students take several classes per week. Advanced classes will include optional work en Pointe.

TAP:  All students can enjoy the basic fundamentals of tap! Students learn basic sounds and steps which lead to advanced rhythms and syncopation.  Dancers progress to complex combinations and routines that incorporate many tap styles.

THEATRE JAZZ:  Jazz includes stretches, isolations, and footwork.   Classes include a warm-up, across-the-floor work, and technique ending with choreography set to Broadway style music.

LYRICAL: Lyrical combines Ballet and Jazz techniques in order to interpret music through dance.  Please note: Students must be currently enrolled in ballet for this discipline.

HIP HOP:  A high-energy class that offers the latest in funk, hip-hop, and street movements.

MODERN:  Modern emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement.  Like other dance forms it utilizes breath (inhale/exhale) to bring quality to movement.

COMPETITIVE CLASSES: Competitive level classes are offered to the members of our Performing Company’s (Nebula and Company Elite)

PRIVATE LESSONS: Private lessons are available in many disciplines.  Please see the office staff for private lesson availability and rates. (Please refer to the Private Lessons section for additional information)
